On Monday, 24 October, the parish hosted its eighth and final Annual Roast Beef Dinner and Loonie Auction event.

Because of the success of this sold-out event over the years, the parish has been able to provide a cumulative total of over 15 thousand dollars to local school breakfast programmes so that children, who would not otherwise have any breakfast, can begin their school day with a healthy breakfast. The proceeds of this year’s event will raise the total amount even higher.

On the auction side of this year’s event, Marion and Nancy F did an amazing job to make the evening a fun experience for those in attendance. Thanks to them for their efforts in encouraging auction contributions from local merchants and members of the community. And, very special thanks to those folks who provided items for the Loonie Auction and for the Silent Auction. They attracted vigorous bidding.

On the catering side, Marylou Bowles organized the tasty menu that was prepared by her, members of the parish, and helpers. Serving was provided by helpers from the Buckhorn School Breakfast programme. The delicious meal was topped off with Marylou’s own apple crisp recipe complete with home-made whipped cream! Ms Mary Lou Wright, Principal of Buckhorn School, was also among the helpers and a guest for the meal. Thanks for all who were part of making the roast beef dinner a culinary delight.

Reservations and tickets were managed smoothly thanks to Eunice with the assistance of Helen.

The “main man” of the evening, of course was the auctioneer — the amazing Mr Doug Pearson. His comical style made the bidding action great fun for all. Thank you to Doug for this year and for the previous years that he has offered his skill to make each event a resounding success.

We wish also to thank all who attended this year’s event because it is through their presence, support, and participation that the parish is able to reach out within the local community. Thanks for being part of this. We hope you had a great evening.

The parish is working on creating a new event as a change of pace from the Loonie project. We will keep folks posted about this new initiative.

Thank you again and blessings to all!
